Darren Varner has joined Olsson Associates as a senior landscape architect, site designer and planner. His planning expertise includes specialized experience in playing field system design and multiple sport complex design for a wide variety of sports including professional, collegiate, high school and municipalities. Varner brings more than 32 years of experience to Olsson.
“We’re excited to have Darren come on board,” said Sterling Cramer, Kansas City region office leader. “He is a highly trained designer who knows the athletic market inside and out. His sports background is a great complement to the Design Studio. His skills add another layer of expertise and diversity that allows Olsson to continue to meet the specialized needs of our clients.”

He worked with the groups’ resources to deliver design and production for multiple sports projects, including baseball, softball, football, soccer, tennis, field hockey and lacrosse.
“Olsson has worked with Darren on several past projects including the Overland Park Soccer Complex and the Fort Hays State University Soccer Stadium. He has a great resume that will really tie together our Design Studio services,” said Ken Boone, Design Studio team leader. “He has served in leadership roles before and knows how to grow business, provide excellent client service and work with teams.”
