McIntyre Gulch crosses the Jefferson County Public School District’s 90-acre campus at Sixth Avenue and Kipling Street. The gulch was deeply incised, with vertical banks exceeding 20 feet.
Olsson Associates was selected to prepare construction documents for grade control, and to provide bank stabilization improvements. Before beginning the design, the Olsson team walked the site with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and local agencies to familiarize themselves with the area and to discuss site constraints. The Olsson team worked closely with the USACE to minimize the habitat disturbance, to prepare a mitigation plan, and to complete a 404 permit application. Subsequent agency review comments were minor.
