Tank integrity provisions, as defined by the federal Spill Containment, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) rules, can be tricky when it comes to inspections. For example, fiberglass tank inspectors are not easy to access in the Colorado region. However, Olsson has inspectors trained for fiberglass tanks and is currently providing these services, as well as many other specialty services, to help oil and natural gas pipeline clients reach and maintain compliance.

Recently, Olsson completed a project to provide external annual integrity testing and inspection for over a dozen fiberglass tanks in several different locations in Colorado. Olsson provided two on-site inspectors to expedite completing the inspections and testing that were necessary to comply with the tank integrity provisions of the SPCC rules. The formal inspections included the following:

  • Visual inspection of all exposed surfaces
  • Visual inspection of external tank appurtenances
  • Digital photo documentation of each tank and any noted deficiencies
  • Additional nondestructive testing, as needed

In addition to inspection services related to fiberglass tanks, Olsson has a variety of other services that are critical to oil and natural gas pipeline companies. Our services include the following:

  • Survey. Olsson has over 60 staff located in 12 offices, providing timely services using responsive and local resources.
  • Special Inspections. Olsson has a broad range of inspection services related to soil, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, and structural steel.
  • NACE (formerly known as the “National Association of Corrosion Engineers”) Inspections. Olsson has performed these inspections, such as Holiday Testing for pipelines and tanks.
  • Non-destructive and Destructive Steel Inspections. These inspections include pipeline installation, steel tank, and other weld-quality inspections, such as welding procedures and welder qualification testing.
  • American Petroleum Institute (API) 510, 570, and 653 and SP001 Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) inspections.

Olsson is committed to helping our oil and natural gas pipeline clients access the full range of engineering and environmental compliance services that are necessary for safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
