Olsson’s expanded geotechnical services capabilities and new hires in the Colorado region have opened up a new range of amenities to Olsson’s clients both locally and across the country. Included in this list of expanded services are construction testing and inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), and other field services capabilities.

Jeff Edson, RGTo further its commitment to the geotechnical industry in Colorado, the firm hired Jeff Edson, RG, in April as Olsson’s Golden office’s group leader for Field Services. Jeff brings with him nearly 20 years of experience in a wide range of field services and 10 years of experience in Colorado and the greater Rocky Mountain region. Jeff joins Olsson’s roster of 20 geotechnical professionals working across the firm.

Among Jeff’s past projects, he has managed three major airport projects involving total demolition and reconstruction of aprons, taxiways, and runways. Jeff has also managed multiple types of developments with various delivery methods, including projects for transportation, industrial, commercial, federal, state, and local government agencies. Further, Jeff managed the field testing and observation program for constructing a 2.3-million-square-foot production facility. He also performed field oversight during construction of a multi-story office building located in an area of underground mining and provided field oversight of the excavation and construction of a new 3.6-million-gallon clean water storage reservoir.

Many of the services now available to the Colorado market include the following:

  • Geotechnical engineering and lab work. Olsson’s geotechnical capabilities include completing geologic and geotechnical studies of proposed project sites and providing findings and recommendations to clients. Other geotechnical services include borehole logging, sample preservation, field area reconnaissance, geological surveys, geological mapping of field areas, and geotechnical materials laboratory analysis.
  • Non-destructive metals testing. In addition to various specialty metals testing, Olsson can also inspect, test, or evaluate metals used in a variety of industries, including rail lines; chemical, petroleum, and water tanks; and pipelines. Olsson’s steel service team is able to provide field testing, laboratory testing, inspection services, and protective coating inspection and analysis to meet the ever-growing needs of our clients.
  • Construction testing and special inspections during construction. Olsson is able to provide code- or specification-mandated review and testing of materials for projects including soil, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, masonry, fireproofing, and structural steel. Olsson is committed to being an integral part of the construction team that works to move the project from the conceptual plan to the finished product.

In the few months since Olsson began offering these geotechnical services in Colorado, work has begun with transportation clients and developers to provide land development services for a mixed-use project. Olsson has also begun work in earnest with oil and gas clients regarding exploration and new structures on their sites and with national retail clients as they expand their storefronts in the Colorado region.
