Karen Griffin, technical leader on the Lincoln Water Resources team, has received one of the American Council of Engineering Companies’ (ACEC) national Community Service Awards. This national award recognizes a principal or manager of an ACEC Member Firm who has made outstanding contributions to the quality of life in his or her community. Karen’s nomination was made by ACEC/Nebraska. ACEC awards this honor annually to fewer than five people.
Karen has shown a commitment to organizations, educational programs, and many other community events. She has volunteered at the Great Trails Network, the school band booster club, and the Groundwater Foundation. At her children’s schools, she volunteered with recycling programs, chaperoned marching band competitions, and helped in the media center. She has also volunteered for several trail events, the Lincoln Marathon, and fundraising events at local businesses and state offices.
This year, she heard that the Rotary Club was looking for volunteers to host foreign students. Karen and her boys welcomed a high school student from Japan into their home.
Currently, Karen is president of the Great Plains Trails Network. She also served as vice president for the Marching Band Boosters Club. At Olsson’s Lincoln office, she is committed to ensuring that the employees are informed about the candidates of upcoming elections. She has also volunteered on two successful campaigns for local government positions.
Karen will be recognized at the College of Fellows Event and Awards Luncheon at ACEC’s Fall Conference in Hawaii in late October. Congratulations to Karen on this prestigious award and for representing our firm so well!
