Kum & Go, a private company with over 400 stores in 11 states, is working closely with Olsson Associates as the company adds over 100 new stores in nine states, which includes Colorado, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Missouri.

At first glance, Kum & Go might look like a regular gas station and convenience store. But, if you take a little closer look, you will see a few things that make Kum & Go a leader in environmental responsibility and community involvement.

Since 1997, Kum & Go has been a leader in distributing biofuel alternatives to customers. These alternatives include E85, a renewable fuel source that can be used in fuel flexible vehicles; biodiesel fuel, a biodegradable, nontoxic fuel that is free of sulfur and aromatics; and a ten-percent ethanol blend, a no-lead gasoline.

Kum & Go's new store design, construction process, and operational practices place a strong emphasis on sustainability. All of the new concept stores built since 2011 are being submitted for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Olsson provides LEED- accredited staff members through its land development services to help Kum & Go through the company’s certification process.

As part of its commitment to the communities in which it does business, Kum & Go donates 10 percent of the company’s annual profits to local education and youth-related activities. Kum & Go truly is a company with a heart.

The concentration of Olsson’s offices in the Midwest offers an ideal launching point for providing a range of engineering services for Kum & Go’s expansion. Olsson services include geotechnical, surveying, land development, landscape architecture, transportation, and special inspections.

As Kum & Go continues to expand in the Colorado market, at least 10 staff members in Olsson’s Colorado offices are busy with new store constructions that range from preliminary due diligence to the recent completion of the first Kum & Go store in Colorado Springs. The Colorado office is also overseeing the expansion of stores in Wyoming.
